NoVES includes live music at almost all Platform meetings. The goal of the music is to enhance community, reinforce ethical ideals and provide an additional opportunity for reflection and thought. Supplementing the mainly spoken message of the Platform Address, we hope to reach more senses and provide a more pleasant Sunday morning experience.
Once a month, our chorus has provided the music. We select music from a broad range of sources. The chorus rehearses before Platform meetings on Sundays we are performing and on one other Sunday each month. (The chorus is always interested in adding a few more singers - hint, hint!)
Other Sundays, we are pleased to hear music provided by professional musicians who are also members, including
- Doris Justis (folk-style music, some of her own composition)
- Chris Van Dyke (music for the harp)
- Josh Blinder, Erik Cohen and Curtis Haymore, separately or together as The Three Keys (folk/rock style music, including popular songs of the 60s and later)
- Dave Roberts and Laura Abbott and their talented family (classical or popular music)
Guest musicians are also sometimes part of our Sunday morning program.
In addition, NoVES often organizes fundraising concerts by some of our talented members.
