CHILDREN’S STORY COMMITTEE Definition

Current members: Delia Bisgyer, Judy Braham, Rosemary Ziskind, Mary Bellamy
This is intended as a guide for NoVES committees, teams, and task forces. In most cases it refers to skills and responsibilities of the committee as a whole, not of individuals.

 Skills needed: Knowledgeable about children’s literature.
Is interested in locating appropriate children’s stories/poetry.
 Responsibilities: Selects children’s stories that are of the appropriate length, suitable for a multiage age audience.
Chooses when possible, and appropriate, stories related to platform theme and/or holiday. Keep tradition alive of reading some stories annually.
Try to have some of the children’s books dramatized.
Provides help, as needed, for non-committee members in selecting a story.
Gives guidance as needed to reader.
Each Sunday provides the book to the reader who is prepared to read aloud.
Sends information (reader, title and author) to Bulletin editor weekly.
Sends a reminder to reader each week.
Prepares a story reader sign up sheet and makes announcements.
 Member Term: No term limits.
 Measurement of Success: Reader and book are ready each week.
Children, old and young, are attentive and interested.
Anecdotal positive responses from NoVES community.
