Karen Helm is an Ethical Humanist Officiant and a member of the Baltimore Ethical Society [0] Board who labels herself a sociologist, a woman, and a human being. She has worked in urban housing development in New York City, run a community mental health facility in Richmond, CA, and engaged in Aboriginal health advocacy in Melbourne. She has also served as San Francisco Vice President of the National Organizationi for Women (NOW) and as President of the State of Victoria YWCA, Australia. She was heavily engaged in voter registration during the 60s and is currently President of the Friends of Druid Hill Park.
