Roy Speckhardt is the executive director of the American Humanist Association where he is actively raising the profile of Humanism. Speckhardt regularly provides a Humanist perspective on progressive political issues and his commentary frequently appears in print and other media.

Speckhardt serves as a board member of the Humanist Institute and is an advisory board member of the Secular Student Alliance and the Women's Law & Public Policy Fellowship Program. He currently resides in Silver Spring Maryland with his partner, Charlene Gomes, and their little girls, Johanna and Riley.

Roy Speckhardt was born January 24, 1973.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Mary Washington College and a Master of Business Administration, with a concentration in information systems management, from George Mason University. In addition to his college education, he received specialized training in nonprofit tax law, financial management, grassroots organizing, fundraising, and dispute resolution.
